Since our election in 2022, the Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief have unified their vision, forged a strong partnership, and worked in close collaboration with Cree communities, entities, and groups to stimulate progress and strengthen Cree governance to foster a new era of empowerment, growth, and prosperity.

Throughout our leadership, we upheld accountability and transparency across all aspects of the Cree Nation Government, and made remarkable advancements in socio-economic, and environmental areas that reinforce our responsible stewardship over our lands and the natural resources we depend on for the well-being of all Eeyou-Eenou.

Deputy Grand Chief Files

  • Eeyou Marine Region Land Claim Agreement: Ongoing CNG and Canada negotiations to resolve outstanding issues to enhance the EMRLCA.
  • National Marine Conservation Area: Following the completion of the NWCA feasibility study, proceeding with the establishment of the National Marine Conservation Area.
  • Cree Nation Research Institute: Initiated the creation of CNRI with Cree Communities and entities to coordinate research, gather data, and unlock data-driven opportunities in various aspects of the Cree Nation.
  • Rights of Eeyou Istchee: Pursuance of formal Cree Nation recognition and affirmation of the rights and responsibilities of Eeyou Istchee.
  • Eeyou Land Use Planning: Extensive work towards empowering communities through innovative land-use planning to increase Cree governance in Eeyou Istchee.
  • Cultural Baseline Study: Commissioned a cultural baseline assessment to determine the extent of Cree Culture and Language loss since 1975 JBNQA.

Grand Chief Files

  • Legislative Achievements: New enhanced internal mechanisms that have enhanced and created changes within the decision-making methodology of the Cree Nation Government Council Board.
  • Cree Governance: Developing a long-term Cree driven governance review based on the historical work and input from members of the Cree Nation communities.
  • Partnership & Advocacy: Working with groups, organizations, and developing external relations and partners to raise awareness and support emerging issues faced by Indigenous peoples. Development of enhanced working relationships with neighboring Indigenous nations.
  • Youth: Enhancing working relationship with youth members as well as providing a space to hear the voices of youth leadership.
  • Annual Declarations: United declaration position to address and simultaneously collaborate on addressing Cree Nation regional issues such as special needs, social solidarity, and economic strategic initiatives.
  • Legacy and Impact: Increased participation within international forums and representation of the Cree Nation.
