The regional Maamuu Upitchinausuutau committee supports or delivers programs and services to children 0-5 years of age. Representatives from the Child and Family Services of the Cree Nation Government, several departments of the Cree Health Board, the Cree Nation Youth Council, the Cree Women of Eeyou Istchee Association have a seat on this regional early childhood committee which we now refer to as Maamuu Upitchinausuutau which translates to “let’s raise our children together”.
Together with its partners, the committee supports all children in our territory to ensure they are provided with the best foundation in order to fully develop to their best abilities. One objective is to host a regional early childhood conference, so this conference is designed to provide teachings and workshops for our young families in Eeyou Istchee.
This conference will draw on our elders and partners to showcase a focus on Cree parenting from the past (traditional parenting), to present, what today’s parenting looks like, and then looking forward to the future and how we want to see Cree parenting in Eeyou Istchee.
