The Cree Nation Government is closely monitoring the new tariffs by the United States on imports from Canada. As of March 4, 2025, all imports from Canada are now subject to 25% tariffs, with the exception of Canadian energy imports, subject to 10% import duties.

The Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee), the Cree Nation Government, the Cree Nation of Eastmain and Galaxy Lithium (Canada) Inc. announce that they have entered into the Kapisikama Agreement on December 14, 2023, regarding the development and operation of the James Bay Lithium project in Eeyou Istchee, a lithium open-pit mine in the traditional territory of the Cree Nation of Eastmain.
