Press release on the passing of EEPF Officer Lyes Cherifi

A tragic road accident on Highway 113 near Ouje-Bougoumou during the evening of December 18, 2017 has sadly taken the life of a member of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force (EEPF), Officer Lyes Cherifi, 26. The Cree Nation Government is saddened by the loss of this young man full of promise who had come to serve our community and extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Officer Cherifi.

Condolences to the Family of EEPF Officer Lyes Cherifi Following Tragic Road Accident

NEMASKA, Eeyou Istchee (December 19, 2017) – A tragic road accident on Highway 113 near Ouje-Bougoumou during the evening of December 18, 2017 has sadly taken the life of a member of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force (EEPF), Officer Lyes Cherifi, 26.

Originally from Montreal, Officer Cherifi graduated in July 2017 from Nicolet’s Ecole nationale de police du Quebec and begun serving for the EEPF in November of 2017 where he was stationed at the Waswanipi police detachment. The EEPF was Officer Cherifi’s first posting following his graduation.

The Cree Nation Government is saddened by the loss of this young man full of promise who had come to serve our community and extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Officer Cherifi. The Cree Nation Government also lends its support and solidarity to the colleagues of Officer Cherifi during these difficult times.
