Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty to Pursue Liberal Party Seat for Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou Riding with Full Support

Following the adoption of Resolution 2025-09 Requesting the Grand Chief to Pursue the Liberal Party Nomination in the Federal Riding of Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou, the Grand Council of the Crees/Cree Nation Government is confirming the resignation of Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty.

Following the adoption of Resolution 2025-09 Requesting the Grand Chief to Pursue the Liberal Party Nomination in the Federal Riding of Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou, the Grand Council of the Crees/Cree Nation Government is confirming the resignation of Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty.

Recognizing Grand Chief Gull-Masty’s leadership and capacity to bridge diverse perspectives and advance shared priorities, it was with great support and enthusiasm that the members of Board/Council support this resolution.  The Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou riding is rich in diversity and opportunities that have always been the strength of our beautiful and vast region.

With this, the Grand Council of the Crees/Cree Nation Government reiterates the importance of progressive federal partnerships that benefit our region as a whole.  Sending a strong and principled voice to represent us in Parliament to advocate for the advancement of priorities of the Abitibiens, Jamésiens, Nunavimmiut and Eeyouch is an opportunity fully supported by the Cree Nation.

Effective Monday, March 31, 2025, Deputy Grand Chief Norman A. Wapachee will assume the role and responsibility of Grand Chief of the Grand Council of the Crees/Cree Nation Government as per the regulations of the Grand Council of the Crees/Cree Nation Government.  Deputy Grand Chief Wapachee will receive the full support of leadership and administration during this transition.

The electoral calendar for the election of Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief will remain as scheduled with the nomination period opening on May 22, 2025, and Election Day July 17, 2025.

Members of the Cree Nation can rest assured that this in no manner affects the obligations, services and daily operations of the Cree Nation Government.
