Grand Opening in Waskaganish
Grand Opening in Waskaganish - Eeyou Marine Region
Waskaganish (Waskaganish, May 24th, 2018) – The Cree Nation Government and Eeyou Marine Region Boards are pleased to announce the official opening of the new Cree Nation Government offices and Eeyou Marine Region Boards on May 30, 2018 in Waskaganish.
On this occasion, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held by the Grand Chief Abel Bosum, in the presence of Mandy Gull, Deputy Grand Chief, Darlene Cheechoo, Chief of the Crees of the Waskaganish First Nation, as well as the Boards members, staff and other distinguished guests.
The Eeyou Marine Region Boards are Institutions of Public Government under the Eeyou Marine Region Land Claims Agreement (EMRLCA), each mandated to assist with implementing the agreement. The Eeyou Marine Region (EMR) offices have been located in Waskaganish since 2015 but last fall, they moved to the new CNG Administration Office building located on Chief Isaiah Salt Road.
The purpose of the event is, of course, to inaugurate the building and the new EMR office space, but we also wish to seize this opportunity to inform the public, and especially the community members from the coastal communities about the EMR and its mission. The EMR is comprised of these three boards:
- EMR Wildlife Board is the main instrument for managing wildlife, and it also manages a research fund to document wildlife and its habitat in the EMR.
- EMR Planning Commission is responsible for developing planning policies, priorities and objectives, including the development and implementation of a land use plan.
- EMR Impact Review Board is responsible for screening project proposals, and when required, reviewing them to determine their potential eco-systemic and socio-economic impacts.
When: May 30, 2018, 1:30 – 3:00 PM
Where: 4 Chief Isaiah Salt Road, Waskaganish, QC
