Former Grand Chief Dr. Matthew Coon Come is among 105 new appointments to the Order of Canada. The investment of a member into the Order is one of the highest civilian achievements; recognizing outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.

Matthew’s role in the landmark agreements that exist for the Cree people of Eeyou Istchee, his advocacy for the rights of First Nation’s people and his dedication to 40 years of public service are among the reasons for this appointment.

The Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee)/Cree Nation Government would like to congratulate Matthew on this prestigious honour and thank him for his years of service to the people of Eeyou Istchee!

On Thursday, March 14, 2019 former Grand Chief Dr. Matthew Coon Come was invested into the Order of Canada.
